In 1954, the interior designer Heinz Clausen from Kiel founded a small carpentry business in Thonberg near Kronach in Upper Franconia. The small company dealt with interior design and store fitting. With the simplest of means and two employees, furniture and fittings were designed, manufactured and assembled for local retailers.

More than 100 employees work at SITEC worldwide to protect public buildings and human lives from burglary, assaults, attacks and fire. As part of the Clausen group of companies, SITEC is an owner-managed family business in its third generation. At its headquarters in Weissenbrunn, Upper Franconia, SITEC manufactures burglar and bullet-resistant security systems such as pass-through systems, counter windows, intercoms, personal interlocks, security doors and partition wall systems.
SITEC products are mainly used in banks, data centers, judicial buildings, gas stations, gatehouses and government buildings around the world. SITEC is continuously developing these products to meet the ever-changing new security requirements.
All products are developed and designed in-house within the group. From metalworking with state-of-the-art processing machines, to electronics manufacturing and software development, to on-site assembly, the various manufacturing steps are carried out by SITEC itself in order to live up to the quality promise 'Made in Germany'.
1954
How it all began...
1960
New location Hummendorf
When the rented premises became too small, a new plant for 25 employees was built a few kilometers away at the current Hummendorf site in 1960.
1970
Inbau Clausen
With the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, the company increasingly concentrates on the northern German market and the interior finishing of ships. A new plant is built near Kiel and Inbau Clausen's headquarters are relocated there.
1975
Foundation of SITEC GmbH
In the wake of RAF terrorism and the bank robberies of the 1970s, security solutions were increasingly needed in store fitting, so the Weißenbrunn site specialized in the production of security technology.
In June 1975, SITEC GmbH was founded and son Olaf Clausen took over the management.
1980
Expansion and extension of the product range
In 1980, 1985, the production buildings are expanded and metal processing is expanded.
In addition to equipping service stations and bank branches, national and major banks are increasingly equipped. In particular, the protection of money processing in national central banks increasingly comes into focus.
1990
Reunification and mobile banking boom
The disappearance of the Iron Curtain and the reconstruction of the East resulted in new markets for SITEC, which also necessitated completely new products. With the production of portable high-quality bank containers including the security technology of a normal bank branch, SITEC supports the rapid expansion of the FRG banking sector to the new federal states.
The mobile banks are already fully equipped at the factory and delivered turnkey, including ATMs.
1996
Expansion of the production areas
In 1990 and 1996, both the company premises and office buildings are expanded. The hall for metal processing rented in the neighboring town of Au is abandoned and the newly constructed production hall at the headquarters in Hummendorf is occupied. The new production building is specially designed for the manufacture of heavy steel structures such as mobile banks and also provides space for a large small parts warehouse and assembly workstations.
1997
Electronic locker system - foundation LockTec GmbH
The product portfolio is expanded to include the business field of electronic locker systems for train stations - initially only as a pure commodity.
The Scottish company Locksafe becomes part of the group of companies in 1997 and is transferred to LockTec Ltd. in Edinburgh.
LockTec GmbH is founded at the Weißenbrunn site, which from then on is responsible for the distribution of locker systems, which from then on are manufactured by SITEC.

2001
International terrorism
As a result of September 11, 2001, the need for security changes worldwide. In the following years, SITEC increasingly equips government buildings at home and abroad with security technology, including a large number of German embassy and consulate buildings.
2005
Electronic Banking
The increased trend toward cashless payment transactions is also changing personal banking. The elimination of closed teller counters and the increasing closure of bank branches also require a rethink in security technology.
SITEC is responding to this with the AXXES electronic personal interlock. The biometric separation system enables secure access for a single person to a security area by means of fingerprint identification. The security interlocks are mainly used in bank branches and data centers.
2016
New warehouse and logistics hall for SITEC GmbH
The new warehouse and logistics hall of the group of companies is ready for occupancy. 750 m² of space is now available for incoming goods and for material orders for major projects.
2017
Expansion of the machine park
The new portal milling machine 'PORTATEC' now also produces three-dimensional parts made of aluminum, plastic, insulating materials, fiber composites and wood materials.
The new laser welding robot 'TruLaser Weld 5000' enables the semi-automatic production of parts made of stainless steel, steel and aluminum. The production of components is now even more precise and also more efficient.
The new profile processing center also enables more efficient production of steel profiles.
2019
Death of Olaf Clausen
The sudden death of Olaf Clausen marks a deep break for the Clausen family and the group of companies. His sons Lukas and Johannes Clausen take over the management of the various companies.
2020
Expansion of production area
Due to the increasing variety of products and the growing project business, further storage areas for project provision in the form of a tent and the addition of a sheet metal racking hall become necessary.
2021
Reorganisation of the corporate structure
As a result of the death of Olaf Clausen, a reorganisation of the company structure becomes necessary. The companies LockTec and SITEC are now part of the Olaf Clausen GmbH & Co. KG.
2022
Independence from natural gas and oil
In 2022, the Group will begin building a biomass heating plant and the associated wood chip storage facility as part of its sustainability strategy (see illustration). In addition to generating heat, a new combined heat and power plant will also supply electricity for the buildings.
2022
Expansion of the machine park
The TruMatic 6000 fiber punch laser machine enables flexible, fast and continuous production. It produces fully automatically, with high quality, sustainability and versatility.
In addition, metal processing capacities were expanded with a new TruBend 7050 bending machine.
2023
Further building blocks of the sustainability strategy realised
The Group completes the biomass heating plant and introduces the processing of pallet waste into wood chips for this plant. The Group also donates over 1,000 trees for the reforestation of the Franconian Forest.
2024
An important milestone has been reached
With the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, SITEC proves that a high-quality quality management system has been implemented. The company also emphasises its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
